Italy’s Foreign Ministry said on Friday that Filippo Calcagno and Gino Pollicardo, who work for compatriot construction firm Bonatti, “are in good health and in the custody of the Sabratha Military Council”.
No mention was made of when or who the two men were freed, but UK broadcaster BBC reported that they were rescued during a raid by Libyan security forces on Thursday.
The BBC’s report speculated that the other two who were kidnapped near the Mellitah Oil & Gas compound in July may have been killed in the raid.
The Ministry’s statement on the development referred only to the two freed men. Nobody was immediately available for comment at the Ministry of Parma-based Bonatti on Friday.
