Twitter erupts as Arsene Wenger announces intended departure

Arsene Wenger on Friday announced that he would leave his position at Arsenal at the end of the current season, ending his 22-year-reign at the club.
During that period, the 68-year-old has won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups, including the Double in 1998 and 2002.
“After careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season,” Wenger said.
The Frenchman has been a huge topic of focus in the recent past following dwindling performances by the Gunners.
The North Londoners are currently ranked 6th on the PL table with 54 points, 14 points adrift of Tottenham Hotspurs who occupy the last Champions League qualification spot.
Upon receiving news of his intended departure, football fans took to social media with mixed reactions. While some celebrate his leaving, others expressed their gratitude, and some showed pity on him.
Here are a few reactions from Twitter;
World renowned British journalist and television personality Pier Morgan could not just stop himself porting this. Piers has been one of the harshest critiques of Wenger, and a top figure in the #WengerOut trend over the last few years.

Football pundit Gary Lineker however had kinder words for the Frenchman this time;
Arsene Wenger is to leave @Arsenal at the end of the season. He has given much of his life to Arsenal. He has brought much success to the club. He has given much to the game of football in our country. Merci et bonne chance, Monsieur Wenger. #Wenger

Have a huge respect for Arsene Wenger. He changed Arsenal, he changed english football, he changed football…Arsenal fans maybe think he should leave few years ago but what a manager he is. Truly inspirational. 22 years – amazing. #wenger #arsenal

Always thought Wenger would announce he was having one last full season and enjoy an entire year rather than just a few games. Shame. Icon.

If Wenger’s announcement doesn’t spur these players to go on and win all their remaining games as appreciation, they really should leave with him tbh.
