Turkish Airlines will soon resume daily direct flights between Mogadishu and Istanbul, officials say.
Ali Kamal Eydin, the deputy undersecretary in the ministry of foreign affairs has told local media that Turkey is currently involved in security assessment of the airport, and once completed, his country’s national carrier will resume the flight that is eagerly awaited by many.
The flights were suspended in early February following an al-Shabaab suicide bomber’s detonation of his explosive inside a Daallo Airlines plane, on air.
The terror group later claimed the attack, saying it targeted top US and Turkish NATO secret service officials who were on board the Somali airliner.
Turkish Airlines was the first international carrier to resume flights to Somalia in 2012 after the collapse of the country’s central government in the early 1990’s.
