Tunisian parliamentary blocs and political parties in the parliament have presented to President Kais Saied a list of candidates able to form a new government, according to Tunis Afrique Presse (TAP).
The new head of government will probably be announced on Saturday, reported TAP.
With 54 parliamentary seats, the Islamist Ennahdha party has proposed the names of Khayam Turki, former Deputy Secretary General of the Democratic Forum for Labor and liberties, and Fadhel Abdelkefi, former Minister of Development, Investment and International Cooperation, the spokesman of Ennahdha told TAP on Friday.
These two candidates were also proposed by the Heart of Tunisia party which has 38 seats in parliament.
In a statement on Friday, the leader of the Heart of Tunisia party Nabil Karoui assured that the decision was taken after consultation with the parliamentary blocs and a consensus on the presentation of a personality outside the parties, “in order to be able to guarantee the formation of a consensual government.”
Once a new candidate is appointed, the candidate will have 30 days to form a cabinet, which must later win the confidence of the parliament.
On July 15, Tunisian Prime Minister Elyes Fakhfakh has submitted his resignation to President Kais Saied.
Ennahda party recently voiced its intention to demand the departure of Fakhfakh’s government, citing “suspicion of conflict of interests and abuse of power of Fakhfakh.”
