Tunisia ranked the best team in Africa, 14th globally

Tunisia have moved up nine places on April’s Fifa World Rankings to position 14 making this their highest ever position.

The World-Cup bound team’s 1-0 wins against Iran and Costa Rica in friendly matches in March helped them secure their new position ultimately making them Africa’s top team.

The highest an African team has achieved in the Fifa ranking was in July 2013 when Cote d’Ivoire were ranked 13.

Senegal who are also headed to Russia for the World Cup come in second on the continent and 28 globally.

Morocco, Egypt and Nigeria who are also headed to Russia are ranked 42, 46 and 47 respectively.

Tanzania matched Tunisia’s nine-place gain by moving to 37 and 137 globally. Tanzania lost against Algeria 4-1 while beating highly-ranked DR Congo 2-0.

Liberia were the biggest losers on the continent after they dropped 16 places to 151 overall and 45 in Africa.

Germany and Brazil still lead the pack globally with Belgium gaining two spots to grab third place.
