Altogether three cooperation agreements were signed on Monday between Tunisian Foreign Minister Khemais Jhinaoui and his Ghanaian counterpart Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, who is on a two-day official visit to Tunisia, the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Monday.
The cooperation agreements cover the creation of a Tunisian-Ghanaian joint committee and the establishment of political consultations to strengthen bilateral cooperation in sectors such as trade, agriculture, industry, higher education, health and youth.
On the sidelines of the signing ceremony held on Monday in the capital Tunis, Jhinaoui highlighted the Tunisian-Ghanaian common will to move forward on the path of boosting fruitful political consultations on issues of common interest in Africa.
Jhinaoui added the volume of trade between Tunisia and Ghana will experience a remarkable development during the next period after the decision to open a direct airline between Tunis and Accra, Ghana’s capital, in addition to a shipping line to Tema Harbor in southeastern part of Ghana.
The Ghanaian foreign minister said her visit to Tunisia would open vast prospects for bilateral cooperation.
“New areas of partnership between our two countries should be explored in the areas of health, tourism, air and sea transport, in addition to the scientific and technical cooperation that Ghana attaches major importance to,” she added.
Ghana has been one of Tunisia’s largest trading partners in sub-Saharan Africa since 2012.
