Tunisia beats Nigeria to win Afrobasket 2017

Tunisia are the Afrobasket 2017 champions after beating defending champions Nigeria inTunis on Saturday.

The North Africans saw off a spirites Nigeria at the Salle Omnisport de Rades, recording a 77-65 win.

Two years ago, at the same venue, Nigeria lost to Tunisia in the group phase but responded with four straight victories to win the trophy for the first time-ever, while Tunisia finished in third.

After trailing by as many as 15 points in the final quarter, Nigeria cut the deficit to 67-59 but a late flurry of Tunisian points sealed victory in the gold medal match.

The win marked Tunisia’s second ever win of the continental basketball title.

Nigerian Ike Diogu was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, headlining the All-Star Five Awards offered by Tissot, where he was joined by Ikenna Iroegbu(Nigeria); Mohamed Hadidane (Tunisia),Mourad El Mabrouk (Tunisia) and Gorgui Dieng(Senegal).
