Traders in Nigeria record low sales in the run-up to Christmas

As Christmas approaches, many families in Nigeria are struggling to celebrate the holidays, with the country just emerging from a recession this year and majority of civil servants facing continued salary delays.
Traders in the capital city say business is slow and that they are expecting subdued festive shopping this year.
Consumers have been complaining of the high cost of goods in the market due to the Christmas with some of them noting that the cost of goods this year was higher than 2016.
Fuel scarcity has also hit the oil-rich nation.
Commuters and motorists have been having a hard time over the past few days as the scarcity continued to halt activities across the country.
Most commuters were left stranded as they struggled to board the few available vehicles to their various destinations.
