Tough VISA rules still hamper tourism in South Africa

According South Africa’s Tourism Business Council, recent figures from the country’s Tourism Business Index showed that businesses in the sector experienced almost normal business performance levels in the first quarter of the year, recording an index score of 97.8.

Despite a small decline in performance compared to the fourth quarter in 2015, businesses in the sector performed closer to normal levels, buoyed by a strong performance in the accommodation sector.

The data also showed that the number of Chinese tourists visiting South Africa in January 2016 was 16% more than in January 2015.
