Togolese President flies into Nigeria to meet Africa’s richest man

Togo’s President Faure Gnassignbe, flew into Nigeria to visit the Dangote Refinery owned by Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote reports local media.

President Gnassingbe arrived in Lagos on Tuesday with his entourage. Gnassingbe was welcomed by the president of Dangote group, Aliko Dangote and the Governor of Lagos state, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enalemah and some members of the business community according to Channels TV.

Togolee President’s visit to Aliko Dangote’s refinery shows a possible business partnership between the Dangote group and the West African country.

“Aliko Dangote is our pride in Africa and his aggressive investment drive towards developing the economies of the continent should be lauded,” said President of Togo Republic, Faure Gnassingbe during a tour of the Dangote refinery project in Lagos

Dangote refinery and fertiliser projects will cost a minimum of $17 billion, according to Dangote the $12billion refinery would have a capacity of 650,000 barrels a day. He further added that the mechanical completion will be at the end of 2018, but we will start producing in 2019, saving Nigeria at least $5 billion spent on the importation of oil according to Mr. Aliko Dangote.

The Togo leader also met with the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari for about half an hour in the President’s office.

President Buhari commended Dangote for his efforts in building the refinery while President Gnassingbe said that the refinery would go a long way in promoting trade and ensuring that there imports from non-African countries would be reduced.

‘President Buhari also promised that the Nigerian government would do all in its powers to stabilise the Niger Delta region to make the pumping of gas to other West African countries easy.’ Said a report by Channels Tv
