Three students killed in South Africa school walkway collapse
At least three students were killed on Friday at a school on the outskirts of the South African city of Johannesburg after a walkway in the institution collapsed.
The head of education for Gauteng province, Panyaza Lesufi, announced the deaths on social media shortly after the collapse at the Hoerskool Driehoek high school in Vanderbijlpark.
Lesufi said the three included two boys and one girl.
“It is painful to see those tiny bodies in that state,” he said.
He also announced that the school had been closed after the incident and the rest of the students asked to go home.
It was not immediately clear what caused the collapse of the walkway.
Emergency services said at least five other students were also injured in the incident.
