Three people killed, seven injured in suicide bombing outside mosque in Somalia
At least three people were killed and seven others were wounded following a suicide bomb attack outside a mosque in Kismayo in southern Somalia on Friday, according to an official.
The dead included a security guard and two civilians, one of whom was Jubaland Chamber of Commerce Chairman Shafi’i Rabi Kaahin, Jubaland State President Ahmed Mohamed Islam confirmed in a statement.
“Today’s terrorist attack in Kismayo killed Jubaland Chamber of Commerce chairman Shafi’i Rabi Kaahin. We extended our condolences to families and friends of those lost their lives in the attack,” the statement said.
This is the latest attack to hit the Horn of Africa whose central government has been battling against an insurgency by the Al-Shabaab militant group for more than a decade.
Last week, at least three people were killed and seven others were injured in an explosion at a restaurant in Boondhere District in the Somali capital Mogadishu.
Last month, militants set off a car bomb near a beachside hotel in an attack which killed at least five people and injured at least 10 others.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack as yet. Al-Shabaab, the Islamist group which operates in Somalia, however, has frequently carried out such attacks in the past.
