The Makukhanye Art Room is the first shack theatre in the informal township of Khayelitsha in Cape Town,it’s place where even the most impoverished can still enjoy the beauty of live theatre performances.
It not only provides a stage for live theatre but creates opportunities for youth,budding artists and for local entertainment.
Residents currently rehearse and perform in this self built theatre shack and the venue is increasingly becoming an important gathering space for dramatic productions,dance recitals,mentorship programs and even poetry performances.
The Art Room is the brainchild of Mandisi Sindo,a theatre actor with a deep passion for the arts and who wanted to bring a joy and entertainment of live theatre to he’s community.
He has become someone who has work tirelessly to create opportunities for artists in he’s community who without him,would not normally have had a platform to express themselves.
