The Gambia’s oil exploration turns unsuccessful
The Gambia’s first attempt at oil and gas exploration has turned up negative according to government officials.
After three weeks of preliminary drilling, initial tests were unsuccessful.
However, the statement indicated the geological assessment, which is led by Australian based Far and Petronas, has shown an indication of the presence of key components of hydrocarbons.
“The prospect of finding oil and gas in the first offshore exploration has been unsuccessful,” the statement from State House said.
The government has however said that the geological assessments of the drilled well have indicated the presence of all the key components of hydrocarbons.
The drilling contractors have been given a six month extension to carry out thorough evaluation of the results.
