Ministry of Health in Kenya on Friday announced that a total of 1,550 COVID-19 patients have so far recovered since the virus was detected in the country in March.

“During last 24 hours, 91 COVID-19 patients were declared cured and discharged from hospitals,” Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman announced.

The ministry also submitted that 117 more coronavirus cases were detected bringing national tally to 4,374. The cases were confirmed from a sample size of 3,043.

Of the new cases,  83 were male and 54 female.

The total number of fatalities in the country rose to 119 after two more patients died overnight.

This even as the ministry said that Persons Living with Sickle Cell Disease (PLWSCD), are at a higher risk of getting infected with COVID-19, and more likely to get severe illness if they get infected. This is due to their impaired immunity resulting from blood disorder.

During this period of Coronavirus pandemic, persons living with sickle cell disease are advised, to ensure they keep a minimum of one-month supply of medication at all times.
