Tension is still high in Kasserine city in central Tunisia and in other towns nearby.

Local media report that there are fresh protests today, following two days of confrontations between the police and demonstrators calling for jobs, development and an investigation into alleged corruption of local authorities.

Amateur and local news footage of the protest in Kasserine show mostly young men, in one film they can be seen burning tyres and hurling stones at the police before being met with a volley of tear gas.

More than 200 people were reportedly treated for the tear-gas inhalation overnight.

The protests were reportedly sparked by the death of a young graduate Ridha Yahyaoui on Sunday.
Several accounts say he died from electrocution after climbing a utility pole in protest against the dismissal of a job application by local authorities.
