Simba Sports Club remained firmly on course to complete a domestic double after defeating rivals Young Africans (Yanga) in the semifinals of the Azam Sports Federation Cup, Tanzania’s premier football knockout competition.

Simba emerged winners in a one-sided match registering a 4-1 victory at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

Brazilian defender Gerson Fraga netted the game’s opening goal on 21 minutes as Simba, who have been dominant for much of the season, went into the break a goal ahead.

Two goals in two minutes from Zambian Clatous Chama and Mozambican Luis Miquissone made it 3-0 before Feisal Salum pulled one back for Yanga.

However, midfielder Muzamiru Yassin, a second-half substitute, sealed an emphatic win with a fourth goal.

Simba’s players were happy with their performance, particularly achieving such a result against their fierce rivals.

“We are very happy for this big victory. We didn’t have a lot to say before the game but we showed it on the pitch that we are the best,” Simba striker Luis Miquissone said.

Simba, who were crowned league champions late last month, will face Namungo in the final in Sumbawanga, in August. Namungo edged second tier side Sahare All Stars 1-0.
