As Tanzania continues implementing its industrial push, President John Pombe Magufuli pledges more democracy in government. He also promises that private sector interests in both Tanzania and the international community will have increased opportunities to invest in the East African nation.

Speaking at a function with religious leaders organized by his State House in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, President Magufuli insisted that his administration will continue to ensure democracy is the basis for peace and development.

However, he also stated that all political and civil players must recognize the corresponding fact that democracy has its limits and everyone must obey them to the benefit of both sides.

“Respect for rule of law, freedom of speech and space for political parties is part of our democracy. However, we are now focusing on development and this is a fact that every Tanzanian now appreciates. For those who want to organize demonstrations and strikes everywhere let them be aware of acceptable limitations to democracy. They must exercise their rights with limitation,” he said.

Speaking on his government’s readiness to work with the private sector and attract more foreign investors, President Magufuli, known for his reform agenda, insists that the government will continue to attract local and foreign private sector investment to create more employment.

“My administration will continue to put in place conducive environment for the local and foreign private sector that includes religious institutions to partner and invest in Tanzania,” said the president.
