Tanzania’s Prime Minister is today relocating his offices from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma, marking the beginning of the government’s migration to the capital city.

President John Magufuli in July ordered all government offices to get ready for the relocation.

Dodoma was made the Tanzanian capital city in 1973 by founding President Julius Nyerere, though government offices have been operating in Dar es Salaam, the country’s commercial capital.

It is projected that the relocation will cost $500 million.

Magufuli was elected into the presidency in October 2015, replacing Jakaya Kikwete.
