The government of Tanzania has launched a special programme aimed at improving motorcycle and tricycles taxis commonly known locally as boda boda and bajaji in Dar es Salaam city reports Daily News.

The programme will introduce registration of special numbers that will appear on special uniforms that the riders will be required to put on. It will also use a system similar to mobile money transactions that will used by passengers to enter the number on the rider’s uniform to get information about the rider. The information will include the rider’s parking area, parking area leader and mobile phone number of the rider.

According to the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner (RC) Paul Makonda, riders will be issued with uniforms free of any charges with helmets as well.

“The objective of this programme is to address the challenges facing this mode of transportation and friction with the police force and ensure its improvement,” explained Mr.Makonda, urging the riders to adhere to traffic laws.

The chairperson of the regional Bodaboda and Bajaji Riders Association preparatory committee has commended the move, saying that it will assist in restoring the public trust in the mode of transportation.
