
Tanzania to have its first mega shoe factory soon
Tanzania is refurbishing its local shoe production factory into a mega factory as part of President Magufuli’s industrialization vision, reports Daily News.
The rehabilitation Karanga Shoe factory is at the tune of TSHs54.4B (24,296,672 USD) and will see production centre produce 1.2 million shoes and 900,000 soles annually as well as other leather made products.
The multi-billion project will boost the country’s economy and also create employment.
“It is a great privilege to visit the construction site of this leather factory, because we see on the ground, the government’s vision of becoming an industrialized country starting to take shape,” said Tanzania’s Minister for Finance and Planning, Dr Philip Mpango.
PPF Pensions Fund and Prisons institutions accepted the government’s call to invest in industries, and are thus behind the shoe factor which is expected to be completed by December next year.
Tanzania was the second largest animal rearing country in the region will thus meet the increase demand on leather according to the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, Labour, Employment, Youth and Disabled), Ms Jenista Mhagama.
