Tanzania ‘s national team coach has been sacked.

The Tanzanian Football Federation confirmed the sucking of coach Martin Ignatius following a string of losses and poor performance for the Taifa starts, Tanzania’s national team.

The Tanzanian Football Federation said in a statement that a successor to the 61-year-old Dutchman who is also known as  ‘Mart Nooij’ would be named in due course.

Nooij’s performance was so bad that people said he may have just been a sacking in the waiting after six consecutive losses – the latest being a 3-0 home drubbing by Uganda on Saturday in a 2016 African Nations Championship (Chan) qualifier.

During the match with Uganda, the Taifa stars were booed throughout the match and rowdy fans threatened to beat up the coach, only to be shielded by tight security.

Yanga Sports Club assistant coach, Charles Boniface Mkwasa is the interim head coach of the national team.

Tanzania also fared disastrously as ‘guests’ at the Cosafa Cup southern Africa championship last month, losing to lower-ranked opponents Swaziland, Madagascar and Lesotho.

Tanzanian Football Federation president Jamal Malinzi said in a statement that the coach popularly known as ‘Mart Nooij’ ceases to be the handler of the Taifa Stars with immediate effect.

Taifa Stars has lost their last two international games under the Dutchman’s stewardship.
