Talk Africa:Tackling Africa’s budget deficit

On June 14th the finance ministers of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda all presented their country’s 2018/2019 budgets. These were their largest ever budgets, but each one contained significant deficits.

So, at a time when countries are moving away from aid-dependency, can domestic revenues fully finance Africa’s budgets? And how can we put in place systems that ensure that our collected revenues are used for what they are intended?
