Talk Africa: Zimbabwe on the edge
Zimbabwe is on edge since the national defense army took control of the country, in what it said was not a military takeover, but a move targeting corrupt government officials in President Robert Mugabe’s reign.
Mugabe has however refused to budge, insisting that he is still the country’s legitimate leader.
The move by the military threatens to bring his 37-year rule to an end.
Regional body Southern African Development Community (SADC) has voiced its concern over the current situation in Zimbabwe, with the region’s leaders holding meetings to avert a possible crisis.
As the mediators descend on the capital Harare to broker the situation, how soon will the country return to normalcy? And what next for Zimbabwe in these uncertain times?
This week’s #TalkAfrica show seeks these answers and much more.
