Talk Africa: Trophy Hunting in Africa

Read < 1 minute

Trophy hunting is a big business globally and remains as an ongoing controversy.

While supporters argue the money helps with the conservation efforts, opponents believe it actually exacerbates the decline of wildlife population.

The debate grabbed international headlines when Zimbabwe’s iconic Cecil the Lion was killed by a trophy hunter back in 2015.

Three years on, it is thrusted back in the spotlight…with the Trump administration lifting the ban on importation of big game trophies earlier this year, and Botswana considering legalising trophy hunting after having banned it in 2014.

So does Trophy Hunting help or hurt animal protection? And what’s the future of Africa’s wildlife conservation?
