Talk Africa: The African Union in 2019

According to the UNHCR, there are over 68 million internally displaced people globally, and the number of refugees is over 25 million.

Sub-Saharan Africa alone hosts more than 26% of the world’s refugees.

African heads of state met in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for the Annual African Union Summit that started on 10 February, to discuss amongst other things, possible solutions to the African Migration crisis.

How effective will the African Union be in finding solutions to forced migration? And what direction will the AU take in 2019?

CGTN Africa’s Beatrice Marshall spoke to a number of experts on the matter:

Dr. Francis Onditi from Johannesburg – Fellow at the Human Sciences Research Council in Pretoria

Dr Ziad Akl from Cairo – Political Analyst & Researcher at the Al Ahram Center for Security and Strategic Studies

Professor Peter Kagwanja in Nairobi – President and CEO of the Africa Policy Institute
