Talk Africa: Floods in Africa
According to the United Nations, over half a million people have been affected by some of the worst floods on record in Sudan. Since the start of the rains in mid- July, the unprecedented storms and flooding have caused severe damage in many states across the country.
The River Nile has also burst its banks in several localities, leading to displacement of people and increased humanitarian disasters.
But the Sudan floods are just a continuation of a season of floods across East & West Africa, coupled with a phenomenon of rising water levels in several lakes across the continent.
This week we look at the impact floods have had on the region and ask how climate change is affecting lakes and rivers across Africa.
