Talk Africa: Closing Daadab Refugee Camp

Read < 1 minute

Home to over three hundred thousand people, the Dadaab refugee Camp in Northern Kenya is the largest in the world.

But now it’s shutting down.

The Kenyan government has drawn up a solid timetable for the closure, something that it’s Foreign Ministry says is driven by economic and security realities. While sceptics have voiced their concern against this move, the Kenyan government has hit back claiming that international support for the camp has always been dismal.

So will the 2013 refugee tripartite agreement between Kenya, Somalia and the UNHCR hold, or is there no turning back on Dadaab’s closure?

Peninah Karibe & her panel of experts discuss the future of Dadaab in this episode of Talk Africa.
