Talk Africa: China’s Presidency at the UNSC

Read < 1 minute

This month is China’s turn to lead the United Nations Security Council. The rotational presidency is an opportunity to set the global agenda on responding to the world’s most pressing issues -including peace and security.

China’s presidency comes amid growing threats to multilateralism, trade wars, and questions about the relevance of the UN. This also coincides with ongoing challenges to stability in several African countries, and with China’s increased presence on the continent, focus will now shift to the actions it is likely to take in responding to Africa’s peace and security concerns.
