Super Rugby’s Lions sign former Cheetahs winger Rabz Maxwane

Super Rugby side the Emirates Lions confirmed the signing of winger Rabz Maxwane, who previously played for the Toyota Cheetahs.
According to local reports, Maxwane joins the Johannesburg-based side side on a two-year deal until the end of the 2022 season.
Maxwane’s contract with the Bloemfontein-based franchise expired in June ending his three-year stay with the club. He had been signed to replace Makazole Mapimpi who had joined the Sharks.
Maxwane had previously struggled at the Blue Bulls but had a breakthrough at the Cheetahs where he finished as the leading try scorer in the 2018/2019 Guinness PRO14 season. His haul saw him equal the Guinness PRO14 try record of Scotland winger Tim Visser for Edinburgh Rugby.

The 24-year-old also won the 2017 Varsity Cup title with University of Pretoria (Tuks) for whom he scored eight tries.
Maxwane is one of a number of players to have recently departed the Cheetahs, either due to a club transfer or retirement.
“We wish all our departing players all the best for the future. I would like to thank them for their contributions both on and off the field,” Cheetah Head Coach Hawies Fourie said.
