Sudan’s General Prosecution on Saturday officially raised charges on officers of involvement in dispersing the sit-in area in front of the army’s general headquarters in Khartoum on June 3.

“After investigation into the dispersing of the sit-in area in front of the army’s general headquarters last June 3, charges have been raised against a number of officers, including a general … with the punishment amounting to death or life imprisonment,” said Fath Al-Rahman Saeed, head of the investigation committee, at a press conference.

According to Saeed , the investigations indicated involvement of a number of officers in the sit-in dispersing, led by Maj. Gen. A.S.A, who gave orders to the soldiers to enter the sit-in area in front of the army’s headquarters.

He further revealed that 87 people were killed between June 3 and June 10, noting that 17 of them were killed inside the sit-in area.

The investigation he says was based on testimonies of 59 witnesses including members from the police, the army, the rapid support forces and the national intelligence and security service, besides witnesses from Colombia area and a number of protesters.

On June 3, the Sudanese authorities dispersed a sit-in of protesters in front of the army’s general headquarters, which resulted in the killing of tens of protesters.
