A spokesman for Sudan’s Transitional Military Council said that two brothers of Omar al-Bashir were arrested as part of a continuing campaign of arrests against symbols of the previous administration.

Lieutenant General Shamseddine Kabbashi, however, did not give details of where Abdallah and Abbas al-Bashir were being detained.

The council’s announcement comes a day after al-Bashir was transferred from the presidential palace to Kobar Maximum Security Prison in Khartoum.

Despite news of the arrests, protesters continued to march in Khartoum demanding for a quick handover of power to civilian leadership.

The African Union gave the council a 15-day ultimatum to transfer power to a civilian-led authority or face suspension.
