The Sudanese government signed a United Nations petition to release children from national security forces, Bloomberg reports the UN to have said.
“We will work to promote and protect children’s rights in areas of armed conflict and displacement,” State Minister of Social Welfare Ibrahim Adam Ibrahim said in the statement. “We are also committed to strengthen existing mechanisms that are included in the Child Act of 2010 and the Sudan Armed Forces law.”
Under the plan, the Sudanese government will appoint a team to coordinate its implementation and to ensure collaboration with the UN.
If the country meets the agreement’s objectives, it will be removed from annexes of the UN Secretary General’s annual report.
