Sudan kicks off 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with victory
Sudan got its 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign off to a flying start following a 1-0 win against Niger in Juba.
Abo Eisa scored the only goal of the game six minutes into the second half to secure the win.
The game was played in South Sudan because Sudan is currently unable to train for or play any matches at home due to the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
Sudan tops Group F with three points ahead of Ghana and Angola, who play each other on Thursday, and Niger, who are bottom with no points.
In Group A, Gambia drew 1-1 with Comoros at Ben M’Hamed El Abdi Stadium in El Jadida, Morocco.
In Group D, Libya and Rwanda also drew 1-1 in Tripoli. While Tanzania and Ethiopia in Group H played out a goalless draw in Dar es Salaam.
24 teams will qualify to play in the final tournament in Morocco from December 2025 to January 2026.
