Students from the Darfur region in in western Sudan will no longer be entitled to free education at tertiary level after the Ministry of Higher learning in Sudan issued a circular cancelling the decision to exempt Darfur students at universities and high leaning institutions from paying school fees according to a report by radio Tamazuj

It was in the Abuja and Doha peace agreements to end on Darfur – War in Darfur is a major armed conflict in the Darfur region of Sudan- that students from the area were given free enrolment in tertiary institutions, which was later enforced in a deal between Darfur Regional Authority and the ministry.

According to Tamazuj police officers were deployed across universities in Sudan’s capital Khartoum to deal with students’ reaction after dozens of students at the Islamic University of Omdurman had staged a sit-in over the matter.
