Tanzanian public servants risk not being paid their July salaries if they do not produce their original academic and employment documents.

Several ministries, government agencies and institutions are reported to have notified their employees to submit their academic and work placement documents in order to get their pays.

Public Service Minister Angellah Kairuki is reported to have said that already 3,600 officers in the coastal region will not receive their salaries for failing to comply with the order.

Since taking over the presidency, President Magufuli’s administration has been weeding out ghost workers in the civil service.

The president says the ghost workers cost the government about $20 million a year.
