Stoke City’s loss to Crystal Palace confirms their relegation

English club Stoke City has been relegated from the Premier League after losing 2-1 to Crystal Palace on Friday.
The Potters are the first side to confirm they will play in the Championship league next season.
Seeking a win to boost their survival chances, Stoke grabbed the first goal through Xherdan Shaqiri in the 43rd minute, but could not cling onto their lead.
A rejuvenated Crystal Palace returned from the break determined to grab a result from the game, scoring an equalizer through James McArthur in the 68th minute.
Patrick van Aanholt grabbed the winner with four minutes to stoppage time, condemning Stoke out of the top tier league for next season.
After the completion of the match, van Aanholt took to social media to apologize to Stoke fans for their club’s woes, and his contribution to that.
Normally I like to celebrate when I score but I’d like to apologise to Stoke City and their fans, I wish my goal didn’t relegate you, but you’ll be back soon! Great club with great fans 👊🏽

The Potters have managed only 30 points this season with one game to go. They have scored 37 times but have conceded 67 times, joint highest with West Ham United.
Stoke City has been in the Premier League since 2008/09 season, and before today had never finished below 14th position.
In that period the club qualified for the UEFA Europa League once, during the 2011/12 season.
