South African Rugby World Cup winner Cheslin Kolbe is raffling a pair of boots he wore during the Springboks title-winning campaign in Japan last year to help raise funds for charity.

The funds raised will be channeled to a non-profit organisation in South Africa, Be the Difference Foundation, which runs 3 different socio-economic programs such as Nutritional Development, Educational Development and Development through Sports.

Kolbe took to Instagram to invite his followers and fans to be part of the raffle and the foundation which, he said, has been feeding between 600 and 1,200 people daily and handing out food parcels and care packages to needy people.

The raffle tickets are R100 (US$5.45) each and the winner will be announced next week.

“A R100 a ticket: could get you a chance to win a pair of my signed boots from the Rugby World Cup and most importantly also contribute massively towards feeding a hungry family,” Kolbe’s Instagram post read in part.

South Africa’s vulnerable population has been hard hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent measures imposed by the government to contain the spread of the virus. Many informal workers have been unable to earn an income during the nation’s lockdown period.

South Africa is the worst-affected country on the continent registering a total of 12,074 COVID-19 cases, 219 deaths and 4,475 recoveries as of May 12.
