Springbok centre Lukhanyo Am extends contract with the Sharks until 2022
South African centre Lukhanyo Am signed a contract extension to remain with Super Rugby side the Cell C Sharks until 2022.
Douglas Craigie Stevenson, the CEO of Cell C, the title sponsor of the Sharks, said he was delighted that Am had decided to remain with the team.
“It is a tough role, it is unforgiving but it is certainly important to be the leader that I have seen in you already; and I wish you and the Sharks and everybody there the absolute best for the future going forward,” Stevenson said in a video posted online.
Am joined the Durban-based outfit in 2016 after a stint with the Isuzu Southern Kings. He was named club captain for the 2020 Super Rugby.
The 26-year-old made his Super Rugby debut for the Kings against the Vodacom Bulls earlier in 2016.
Am has gone on to make 63 appearances in Super Rugby, with 53 of them coming for the Sharks, scoring 55 points.
He has also won 15 caps for South Africa and was part of the Springboks’ 2019 Rugby World Cup winning campaign in Japan featuring in six of South Africa’s seven matches.
