Read < 1 minute

South African workers will now earn a minimum wage of $240.

That’s the recommendation by a commission investigating the earnings of workers across the country. The new salaries will be implemented within the next two years. The proposal is expected to provide a lifeline to more than 50% of South African employees who earn less than the recommended minimum wage.

Angelo Coppola has been gauging the mood in Johannesburg after the announcement.
