South Africa’s health policies aid in reducing maternal mortality
The South Africa government has made great strides in reducing maternal deaths in recent years.
It’s all thanks to key health policies, including the provision of free antiretroviral treatment. Antenatal care is also free in the public health system, and most women visit an antenatal clinic at least once during their pregnancy. But one of the major obstacles is that women often wait until too late in their pregnancy before consulting these healthcare centres.
