South Africa’s COVID-19 death toll has surpassed 8,000 after recording 193 more deaths over the weekend.

The number of confirmed cases in the country is fast approaching the half a million mark as 493,000 people have been confirmed positive so far.

According to the health department, the recovery rate translates to 66% as 326,171 patients have recovered from the virus.
