South African researchers develop new anti-malaria compound

Scientists in South Africa say they have discovered a compound that could help prevent and treat malaria effectively. It’s an important milestone in fighting the mosquito-transmitted disease.

As Thuli Tshabalala reports, Africa remains the world’s worst-affected region, accounting for 88 percent of new cases and 90 percent of all malaria deaths.
