South African players, coaches ready for resumption of Absa Premiership
South Africa’s Absa Premiership makes its much anticipated return on Tuesday after nearly five months after suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates kick off the action at the Dobson Stadium in Johannesburg. However, the football season resumed on Saturday with the Nedbank Cup semifinals being played first and the GladAfrica Championship thereafter.
The return, however, has not been without controversy from the safety of the players and staff to the selection of Gauteng province, South Africa’s worst affected region, as the host of the remainder of the season.
Despite that, matters have so far gone smoothly and fans, who will only watch the game at home, are in for a treat as the Absa Premiership starts off with such a high profile game.
Ahead of the return of the Absa Premiership, CGTN Africa spoke to a coach and player on their feelings prior to the resumption of the season.
