South Africa’s Navy Festival began at the weekend, celebrates the country’s naval forces, which was founded back in 1922.

This year’s Navy festival hosts a range of family activities. It gives fans of maritime history and seafaring combat the chance to experience a real naval base first-hand. Those who relish aquatic warfare can also explore some of Mzansi’s largest and most impressive warships and submarines and witness the disciplined perfection of a Navy precision drill.

Alternatively, the less combative can simply hop on to one of the tug boats for a sail around the harbour.

The festival, which begun on Friday, was an exhilarating treat for many people.

The South African Navy band entertained the audiences as they went about the different attractions at the festival.

According to the organizers, the maritime arm of the National Defence Force will showcase eight of its vessels. Additionally two Navy tugs will be ferrying festival visitors around Simon’s Town harbour, giving a different view of the South Africa’s Navy’s warships.

The festival is scheduled to end on Sunday, as the country celebrates close to 94 years of the Navys’ service to South Africa.
