Read < 1 minute

South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma at the weekend met with Russian President Vladimir Putin – during World War Two Victory Day celebrations in Moscow. The meeting was seen as a way to strengthen ties between the two countries.

South Africa last year resumed its seafood exports to Russia for the first time in almost two decades.

The two leaders met on a day when most Western leaders boycotted the celebrations in Moscow over Russia’s intervention in Ukraine.

Despite that Putin told Zuma that South Africa remains a key partner to Russia especially in Africa.
