South Africa names 36-man team for New Zealand/Argentina tour

South Africa’s Director of Rugby Rassie Erasmus named a 36-man team for the Springboks’ upcoming tour of New Zealand and Argentina in the Rugby Championship.

South Africa face defending champions New Zealand on July 28 in Wellington and then Argentina in Saltas on August 10.

A team of 14 players who already left for New Zealand on Thursday will be joined by eight players who flew out on Saturday following their 35-17 win against Australia in Johannesburg.

The eight players are Bongi Mbonambi, Eben Etzebeth, Elton Jantjies, Herschel Jantjies, Jesse Kriel, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Rynhardt Elstadt and Trevor Nyakane. They were accompanied by Erasmus and other coaching staff.

Another group of 10 players was set to depart on Sunday: Cobus Reinach, Francois Louw, Frans Steyn, Lood de Jager, Marcel Coetzee, Makazole Mapimpi, S’busiso Nkosi, Schalk Brits, Tendai Mtawarira and Vincent Koch.

Four other players (Andre Esterhuizen, Lizo Gqoboka, Marvin Orie and Warrick Gelant) are expected to link up with the rest of the team in the coming days.
