South Africa farm workers pay hike debate
Wages in the agricultural sector in South Africa have been raised for the 2016 season, but those in the sector, are anything but impressed.
The changes announced by the country’s Labour Department, amounts to a daily increase of around 50 US cents per day per worker, which isn’t enough to lift many out of poverty.
The agricultural industry in the Western Cape is facing significant income pressure due to drought; and there may be more to come if workers decide to down their tools.
