South Africa beats Argentina to qualify for Dubai 7s semifinals

South Africa’s rugby sevens team on Saturday qualified for the Main Cup semifinals at the Dubai 7s following a 12-5 win against Argentina at The Sevens Stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The South Africans scored their tries through Justin Geduld & Rosko Specman. Geduld successfully converted one try to give the three-times Series champions a 12-0 lead at the break.

Matias Osadczuk dotted down for the Argentines in the second half but the South Africans held on for the win.

The Bliztboks had earlier on Friday progressed to the quarterfinals after topping Pool D with a maximum three wins from three matches. They defeated Kenya 17-12, Spain 33-5 and England 19-14.

The Blitzboks will face Samoa in the second semifinal while England will play against New Zealand in the first semifinal.

Victory in the semifinal will give South Africa a chance to win the Dubai leg of the HSBC Series for a seventh time.

Kenya, meanwhile, will contest the 13th place playoff against Scotland before the semifinals kick off.

Shujaa has endured a disappointing outing in the opening leg of the HSBC World Sevens Series losing all its pool matches. Kenya lost 17-12 to South Africa, 12-5 to England and 22-19 to Spain.
