South Africa, Angola to scrap visa travel as Lourenco meets Zuma

Angolan President Joao Lourenco is in South Africa for a two-day working visit that will see him hold bilateral talks with his South African counterpart Jacob Zuma.
The visit is seen by many political analysts as an effort by Lourenco to break away from his predecessor Jose Eduardo dos Santos’ rather muted diplomacy policy.
Local media report that there are plans to scrap visas for all categories of passport holders.
The two countries are members of the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
Lourenco and Zuma met earlier this week in Luanda as part of SADC’s efforts to intervene in the political situation in Zimbabwe.
The Zimbabwean military had taken over the state, and a standoff looked likely as it demanded that President Robert Mugabe resign, yet he did not.
Mugabe later resigned on Tuesday evening as parliament begun an impeachment process against his rule.
Former vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa – whose sacking on November 6 triggered the political crisis – was on Friday sworn in as president on a caretaker basis until elections are conducted in 2018.
